If a woman were in charge, do you think we’d still be debating women’s rights year after year? Or would the conversation finally shift to holding men accountable?
Would we be talking about mandated vasectomies for men who abandon child after child instead of forcing women to bear every burden alone?
Because right now, a man can father five children, have no legal rights to any of them, pay no child support, and still walk away untouched—while the mother is left to sacrifice everything.
Marital rape wasn’t fully criminalized in all 50 states until 1993. And as of today, the U.S. remains the only developed country without paid maternity leave requirements.
We’ve come far, but the laws are still written in a way that assumes mothers are the default parents, forcing us into poverty, exhaustion, and survival mode while fathers can simply opt out.
And the children? They suffer the most.
In the U.S. a person can severely harm their child and that child is still expected to attend visits with their abuser… These children are at higher risk for mental health issues, dropping out of school, and incarceration.
All the while, women escaping domestic abuse often end up homeless because the system prioritizes keeping families together over keeping mothers and children safe. Unfortunately, this is when many women end up going back to their abusers. And then, sadly, many end up a statistic -
So tell me, why is it always about controlling women’s bodies, but never about holding men responsible?
